Winds ease at Colo. fire but town still a concern

DEL NORTE, Colo. (AP) — Decreased winds could help the slow the massive wildfire burning in Colorado's southwestern mountains a bit, but it's not the major change firefighters have been hoping for.

Incident commander Pete Blume says hot and dry conditions Tuesday should still keep the 124-square-mile blaze active.

The fire is about 4 miles away from the tourist town of South Fork, which was evacuated last week.

Blume says the town is still a concern. Fire crews have used bulldozers to build lines around South Fork to slow down the fire should it get closer.

In New Mexico, a wildfire in the Gila (HEE'-luh) National Forest has grown to 125 square miles and is expected to keep expanding.
