Rand Paul rails against 'collective' on light bulbs

Paul continued: "I would propose we spend more time expanding our choices and less time banning light bulbs."

He got six committee votes for his amendment, which failed. The committee adopted the appliance bill, sending it to the Senate floor for consideration.

Paul, a freshman elected in November with Tea Party support, backs an effort to repeal a law signed by President George W. Bush that phases out incandescent light bulbs in favor of a more energy-efficient option.
