Australia suspends Tiger domestic flights (AFP)

SYDNEY (AFP) – Australia's air safety regulator has ordered budget carrier Tiger Airways Australia to suspend all domestic flights from Saturday while it investigates two "operational incidents", the airline said.

Tiger, whose parent company is Singaporean, said in a statement on its website that the ban by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) would last until July 9.

The airline told passengers due to fly with it not to travel to the airport, apologising for "any inconvenience".

"The airline is doing all it can to minimise passenger disruption, especially for passengers who are travelling this weekend and over the next week," the statement said.

"Tiger Airways continues to cooperate fully with the industry regulator and safety underpins our operations at all times," it said, adding that its international services to and from Singapore were not affected.

The move came after CASA served Tiger with a "show cause" notice in April reportedly related to maintenance and pilot training and monitoring.

It was the first such notice to be issued to a major Australian airline since 2001, when CASA threatened to ground the now-defunct Ansett Airways over jet safety.

Tiger Airways Australia is a subsidiary of Singapore-based Tiger Airways Holdings, which is part-owned by Singapore Airlines. It has been flying in Australia since 2007 and in March celebrated its seven-millionth passenger with a $1 fare sale across 19 domestic routes.

It describes itself as Australia's "only true low-fare airline" and has reportedly driven down domestic ticket prices by 30 percent since entering the market.

Egypt court suspends order to remove Mubarak name (Reuters)

CAIRO (Reuters) – An Egyptian court Saturday suspended its order to remove the names of former President Hosni Mubarak and his wife Suzanne from public institutions.

Officials seeking to win presidential favor routinely named streets, schools, military installations and remote rural clinics after Mubarak in the years before the popular uprising which toppled him in February.

Lawyers filed a suit seeking cancellation of the court's original ban in April.

Judge Mohamed el-Sayed said the court had temporarily suspended its verdict pending a review of the case Wednesday.

Mubarak has been ordered to stand trial on August 3 on charges of killing of protesters, which could carry the death penalty. He is also accused of abuse of influence, wasting public funds and unlawfully making private financial gains.

He was admitted to hospital in April after reportedly suffering heart problems during his initial questioning.

Suzanne Mubarak was released from detention in May after agreeing to give up her assets but is still being investigated into whether she amassed wealth illegally.

She too was admitted to hospital after suffering symptoms of a heart attack shortly after she was ordered detained.

Their two sons, Gamal, who was once viewed as a possible future president, and Alaa, are also in jail and will also stand trial alongside their father.

(CNN) -- Months after video of its pledges shouting pro-rape chants went viral on YouTube, an elite fraternity chapter at Yale has been suspended.

Yale College Dean Mary Miller announced the suspension of the university's Delta Kappa Epsilon chapter on Tuesday in an e-mail to students and faculty.

A disciplinary body at the college "imposed sanctions on the DKE chapter as an organization that prohibit it from conducting any fraternity activities on campus (including recruiting) for a period of five years," Miller wrote.

The sanctions also "prevent it from communicating with Yale students by means of Yale bulletin boards or Yale e-mail, and severely limit its use of the Yale name in connection with the DKE organization."

Punishments were meted out to individual fraternity members too, the dean said.

The chapter drew widespread criticism last fall after its pledges chanted slogans that seemed to advocate rape, such as "No Means Yes" and "Yes Means (a sex act)." Video of the frat's antics circulated widely on the internet.

Yale's disciplinary actions Tuesday come several weeks after officials confirmed the university was under federal investigation for a possible Title IX violation. The complaint that prompted the investigation alleged that the school's policies permitted a "sexually hostile environment" to exist on campus.

Delta Kappa Epsilon has operated at Yale since 1844 and is "the only fraternity at Yale which has never gone inactive," according to its website. The chapter's illustrious roster of former members includes presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush.

The international Delta Kappa Epsilon office did not immediately return a request for comment.
