2nd teen survives leap from Golden Gate Bridge

For the second time in five weeks a teenager has defied the odds and survived a plunge from the Golden Gate Bridge.

Sunday morning, an unidentified 16-year-old girl visiting San Francisco with her family jumped after handing her sister a suicide note, officials said, according to the Bay Citizen. She survived the 245-foot fall and 20 minutes in the 53-degree water before being rescued. One witness reported seeing her swimming to stay afloat.

The girl's condition or other information hasn't been disclosed, AP says.

March 10, a 17-year-old Sonoma County student on a field trip also survived a plunge from the bridge and swam ashore. He told a surfer who helped him from the water he "did it for kicks."

Roughly 98% of people die from either the 75 mph fall or from hypothermia. The span is known as the world's most popular suicide spot.
