Records: Cleveland suspect faced prior complaints

CLEVELAND (AP) — Records reveal the Cleveland man charged with holding three women captive for about a decade had been accused of threatening his neighbors, attacking his common law wife and of committing violations during his career as a school bus driver.

One record released Monday by Cleveland police says Ariel Castro assaulted his common-law wife in 1993. She told officers she had brain surgery a month before.

Another record says Castro was accused of trying to attack a neighbor with a shovel in 1994 after the neighbor accused Castro of stealing his chain-link fence.

Other reports say Castro was suspended for two months in 2004 after driving around town with a boy who was left on his school bus and reprimanded for making an illegal U-turn in rush-hour traffic with students aboard.
