INDIANAPOLIS — An open door allowed the sounds of Texas A&M’s national championship celebration to snake its way from the Conseco Fieldhouse court down the hall and into the locker room.

But the sound of muffled sobs from women’s basketball players could be heard in the stillness of the locker room, as the disappointment of their 76-70 loss in the national championship game sank in.

“This season will still mean a lot to us,” senior captain Becca Bruszewski said. “Just the fact that nobody thought we could get here. A lot of people doubted us and always looked past us. I just wish we could have finished it.”

Bruszewski, ’s only departing senior, hopes that her legacy to the team for next season is to work hard and keep fighting.

“They’re going to be great next season,” said Bruszewski, a former Wheeler High School star. “They’ve got a lot of talent on this team. They will have the same attitude, same toughness, and same skills, if not better, next year. They’re all great teammates, they’re all great people. They’ll be back. They’ll be back.”
