(CNN) -- A manhunt was under way Sunday for an Oklahoma jail inmate who overpowered two detention officers and stole one officer's personal vehicle in escaping from custody, authorities said.
Shaun Bosse, 27, is charged with three counts of first-degree murder and one count of arson. He is accused of killing Katrina Griffin, 24, and her two children -- Christian, 8, and Chastity, 6 -- on July 23, according to CNN affiliate KOCO.
Bosse stole a black 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix in his escape, said McClain County Undersheriff Bill Shobe. The car, which was newly purchased, has a paper tag, he said.
The car was last seen going northbound out of Purcell, Oklahoma, at about 10:25 a.m. (11:25 a.m. ET), Shobe said.
After receiving reliable information that Bosse was in the Blanchard, Oklahoma, area, authorities established a perimeter Sunday around a two-square-mile area, and were checking every vehicle that enters or leaves the area, said McClain County Sheriff Don Hewett. Bosse has friends and relatives in the area, he said.
Helicopters were in the air, he said, and a highway patrol dog and tactical team were en route so a ground search could be conducted.
Residents of the county were advised to stay inside and lock their doors, according to KOCO. But, "to our knowledge, at this time, he is not armed," Hewett said.
Anyone who sees Bosse is advised not to make contact with him, but to call 911 immediately, he said.
Asked how Bosse was able to overpower two deputies, Hewett said, "We're asking the same question. We're doing an internal (investigation) at this time. Our main concern at this time is catching this individual."
The deputies are "fine," Hewett said. "They're not hurt at all."
The bodies of Griffin and her two children were found in a mobile home that had caught fire, according to KOCO. Authorities said she died from eight stab wounds, and Christian had been stabbed five times, while Chastity died in the fire, KOCO said.
According to court documents, Bosse told investigators that he and Griffin had been dating for about two weeks, KOCO said.
Bosse is described as being about 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing about 215 pounds, with brown hair and green eyes. He is thought to be wearing a white T-shirt and black pants, and "we believe he is barefoot," Hewett said.CNN's Amanda Watts contributed to this report.
