Windy conditions affect TX wildfires

One fire near Possum Kingdom Lake, less than 70 miles west of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area, had burned into residential areas and was threatening more than 600 homes, theTexas Forest Service reported Tuesday.

The fire more than doubled in size late Monday and overnight into Tuesday, said Forest Service spokesman Marq Webb, destroying or damaging an unknown number of homes in four or five neighborhoods around the lake. The fire had previously destroyed 31 homes, according to the agency.

Thick smoke caused visibility problems in some areas, the Brazos River Authority reported, and all roads leading into the area were closed, officials said.
