Ahmed pleads guilty in D.C. Metro bomb plot

Farooque Ahmed was sentenced to 23 years in prison, according to the news organization. Monday's plea was a switch from the not guilty plea he entered last year. In making the switch, Ahmed admitted that he attempted to provide material support to a designated terrorist group, CNN reported. He also admitted to collecting information to help in planning a terror attack on a transit facility.

Ahmed, a naturalized U.S. citizen from Pakistan, first attracted the attention of the FBI in January 2010 when he began discussing with associates his interest in contacting a terror organization to wage war against U.S.-led coalition forces in Afghanistan and Pakistan, according to federal court documents, USA TODAY has reported.

At the time of his arrest in October, authorities found three weapons at Ahmed's home: a Smith & Wesson pistol, a 12-gauge shotgun and a Remington rifle, CNN reported.
